Meet Dr. Jessica Shepherd - patient advocate for PTP!

Dr. Shepherd is a new addition to Pass the Pearls as the Public Affairs and Minority Advocacy Chair on the Executive Board. In 2011, Dr. Shepherd completed a fellowship in Gynecologic Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Louisville where she also completed her Masters of Business Administration. She currently is at the University of Illinois at Chicago as the Director in Minimally Invasive Gynecology. She has created a following among the community in offering patients laparoscopic surgical procedures that may not have been offered in their past.

Her passion is to empower women and to educate them on the options available to them when undergoing surgical procedures. She has been active in the community as a speaker at outreach events and conferences as well as a medical expert in various journals including Women’s Day, LifeScript.com, Heart and Soul, Best Health and WebMD. She also appeared on the local news in Chicago and Indianapolis to discuss women’s’ health issues. As a minimally invasive surgeon she has given lectures nationally and internationally on fibroids and myomectomies as well as chronic pelvic pain and endometriosis. As a part of the Pass the Pearls team she hopes to motivate women to explore their options for minimally invasive approaches.
